Girls Flag Football
Program Philosophy
One of the fastest growing sports in the Nation, girls flag football was officially adopted as a Washington Interscholastic Athletics Association (WIAA sport) for the 2025-2026 school year. Seatle Prep is proud to offer varsity and junior varsity level teams that compete within the Metro League.
Flag football currently competes during the winter sports season and is a perfect complement to other sports such as soccer, volleyball, lacrosse and track & field. Student-athletes learn to compete as a team and to be a part of something bigger than oneself.
In the 2025-2026 inaugural season, the Panthers were thrilled to earn a berth into the State tournament, where they advanced all the way to the State Championship game.
PROGRAM HEAD
Josh Mitchell was named the first program head of flag football when he was hired in the fall of 2025.
Mitchell is a graduate of Oregon State University where he played for their football team. There he started 27 games over his four-year career, earning 1st team all-league honors in 2015 and serving as a team captain his senior year. His coaching career began right after graduation at Mount Si High School, where he spent 5 years as an assistant football coach and one year as the head wrestling coach. He has been on the Prep football staff since 2023, where he serves as the offensive coordinator on the freshmen team.
Mitchell is joined on staff by Abby (Rockwell) Mitchell ’14, who serves as an assistant coach. The two were married in July of 2026.
