Baseball
Program Philosophy
Baseball is a unique sport in that failure is to be expected – even the best players fail early and often. Baseball players spend most of their time reacting to different situations — the sport practically demands that you gain comfort in being uncomfortable. Whether we win or lose, we are consistently challenging our discomfort and we learn to rely on our teammates to overcome common obstacles. We want to be the ones celebrating after a game, but more than anything else if we embrace the challenge of honorably competing at a high level — without fear of failure – your experience and friendships will remain with you for a lifetime.
PROGRAM HEAD
The Seattle Preparatory community is excited to introduce Wes Long as the head coach and program head of baseball.
Well known in the baseball community and armed with a diverse coaching lens, Long is poised to bring enthusiasm, passion and a dedication to development to the Seattle Prep program.
A two-time all-American out of University of Alabama Huntsville, Long was drafted in the 29th round by Oakland Athletics in 2004. Following an eight-year professional career, he and his wife moved to the Seattle area, where he started his coaching career shortly thereafter. Today, he serves as the President and Director of Coaching at City and has been instrumental in the development of thousands of area youth, high school, collegiate and professional baseball players since 2012.
In addition to his work with City Baseball, Long has spent time as a professional scout and coach with both the A’s and Chicago Cubs organizations and served three years as the hitting coach and recruiting coordinator for Seattle University.
