Drama

The Seattle Prep Theatre Program is designed to enable students to discover their creative abilities while inspiring them to strive for artistic excellence. Our award winning Theatre Program gives students a wide variety of opportunities in the performance and production of live theatre. Our mission strives to achieve the following goals:

  • To produce the highest quality performances we are capable of creating
  • To challenge ourselves with productions that stretch our talents and abilities
  • To encourage students to attain a mastery of the theatre arts
  • To develop a life long appreciation for and involvement with theatre
  • To develop integrity, positive attitude and rigorous work ethic in our company

Students are involved in all aspects of creating theatre both on stage and behind the scenes as performers, directors, designers, builders and crew-members. Each year we produce a three-show season including a play, musical and student-directed festival of shorts. Students are selected through an audition process for performing and an interview process for directing or being part of the technical/production crew.

Prep offers a variety of Acting Classes student may take as part of their arts curriculum. The classes build skills in individual and group performances, audition techniques, playwriting, character development, acting with the voice, and movement techniques. All the classes are taught by our Theatre Director, Adam Othman.

Thespian Troupe Takes Top Honors

Seattle Prep Theatre has taken the state’s top honor for the past two years, winning the "Best Performance of the Festival" at the Washington State Thespian Festival. In 2023 we earned this honor for our production of "Into the Woods" and in 2024 for "A Midsummer Night's Dream". Both performances received a perfect score from the judging team. A number of Prep students also were award Superior and Excellent Honors for individual and duo performances in acting, singing and film. Fr. Healy Chapel & Theater

The Fr. Healy Chapel and Theater opened in 2008 and is the primary home for our performing arts programming. The theater seats 350 and is outfitted with the latest state-of-the-art lighting and sound equipment, including 30 LED lighting fixtures and a digital audio board for clear sound. The front of the stage lowers, revealing a full orchestra pit. The theater is both our rehearsal and performance space.

Students interested in working behind the scenes are trained in stage management, lighting, sound, construction, scenic painting, props, costuming, and working our fly-rail rigging system. Students working on the production crew learn from professional designers and student crew leaders.
