Last fall, Prep contracted with Crisis Realities Training to provide teacher training, a student information assembly and a parent information night, as well as a site assessment.

Faculty and staff attended a three-hour presentation conducted by Jesus Villahermosa, a former Pierce County Deputy. Villahermosa is a nationally recognized expert in the field and shared best practices with the group. After this training, he spoke with students and covered some of the same material, but with a focus on student empowerment. Villahermosa emphasized that the skills and concepts he addressed were not only for schools, but for navigating in our society in general. Later that evening, Villahermosa directed a parent information meeting in the Healy Chapel/Theater where around 100 parents were in attendance.

Crisis Realities Training completed a site assessment for the school. Using 35 community volunteers, the school ran a lockdown drill. The volunteers convened after the drill and offered observations and input. Crisis Realities Training assessor Sean Decker then examined the physical campus with an eye on security. A report was given to the school detailing paths for improvements including policy changes and improvements in facility infrastructure.
