“Co-workers called Joe the Cowboy. He was the first one to jump in the car to head to a dangerous situation, a response that does not surprise those who knew him. His life experience enabled him to connect with people and help people in need."

The Seattle Prep family recently lost one of its own. With a dollop of humor, a helping of kindness, and a dash of mischief, every gathering became livelier when Joseph Worm ‘95 walked into the room.

Known for his practical jokes, Joe enjoyed making people laugh. Whether it was prank calling classmates (or their parents), or walking up to a party with an oversized flashlight pretending to be the police, he was always into something. “His outsized personality made everything more fun. Many of the fond memories friends and classmates cherish from our time at Prep were because Joe was there,” recalled Michael Mullally ’94.

Helping others was second nature for Joe. Following graduation, he worked with business owners in the Dominican Republic through the Peace Corps and later taught English in South Korea. Joe served his country through the Coast Guard. More recently, he was a crisis responder for Kitsap Mental Health.

“Co-workers called him the Cowboy. Police would route volatile situations to Joe’s team and he was the first one to jump in the car to head to a dangerous situation, a response that does not surprise those who knew him. His life experience enabled him to connect with and help people in need.

Spencer Hurst ’95 and I started this scholarship in memory of Joe because he loved Prep and he loved his schoolmates.”

"Even going to the grocery store with Joe was fun! When I think of my time at Prep, I think of Joe,” Spencer recounted.

Donations to the C. Joseph Worm III ’95 Memorial Endowment provide tuition assistance to Prep students.
