Placement Test (HSPT)
Seattle Prep’s primary use for High School Placement Test (HSPT) scores is to help with class placement for accepted students. While Prep also uses these scores for admissions, they represent a small piece within a multi-layered, holistic review of every application. Aware that some tutoring services advertise HSPT preparation as a paid service, Prep suggests that you save your money. There is no need to prepare for the HSPT. By virtue of being an 8th grade student, applicants for freshman year have already prepared for the exam. Better to concentrate on performance in school than waste time and resources on expensive test-prep tutoring. Students can take the HSPT at Prep on Saturday December 3, 2022 or Sunday, December 4, 2022.
Applicants may take the exam at other sites throughout the Puget Sound area. However, Seattle Prep requires students to write an essay when they sit for the HSPT at Prep. Students who take the HSPT elsewhere should check with that site to see if an essay is offered and if that essay can be sent to Prep. All testing must take place before January 5, and it is strongly recommended that students test before the end of December to ensure that results will arrive at Prep before the application deadline. The online HSPT registration deadline for testing at Prep is November 28 at 8:00 AM. The online HSPT registration with accommodations deadline at Prep is November 15. Registration for the HSPT will open in October within the admissions portal.
