Placement Test

Seattle Prep uses the High School Placement Test (HSPT) results as one piece of a holistic review of each application. The test results alone are not a primary determiner of acceptance. We strongly discourage families from paying for preparation courses or hiring tutors. Prep will offer the HSPT on Saturday, December 1, 2018 at 9:00 a.m. and on Sunday, December 2, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. in St. Ignatius Hall. Applicants may take the exam at other sites. However, students who take the HSPT elsewhere should check with that site to see if an essay is offered and if that essay can be sent to Prep. Prep requires that students write an essay when they sit for the HSPT.

All testing must take place before January 9, and it is strongly recommended that students test before the end of December to ensure that results will arrive at Prep before the application deadline. The online pre-registration has been extended to November 30 at 1:00 p.m. The online pre-registration with accommodations has closed.

HSPT Registration Directions for testing with accomodations

For students who require testing accommodations on the HSPT, you must provide “disability verification documentation.” The disability verification documentation must show evidence of a learning difference and the need for testing accommodations, e.g., IEP, 504 Plan, or other formal written assessment by a qualified practitioner. The online pre-registration deadline to take the HSPT with accommodations at Seattle Prep is November 1. Space is limited, therefore, only those applying to Prep for the 2019-2020 school year will be considered. For questions about the HSPT with accommodations, please email Amber Ferrese or Karla Bocek or call 206-577-2172. Please note that test start times are different for students approved for accommodations. Testing will begin at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday and 11:00 a.m. on Sunday. Students should arrive 30 minutes before start times and check in at Adelphia Memorial Hall NOT St. Ignatius Hall. TESTING DAY INSTRUCTIONS

Please review the following information in order to ensure a successful test-taking experience.

  • Please arrive at St. Ignatius Hall at 8:30 AM (Saturday) or 12:30 PM (Sunday) for check-in.
  • Please bring the following:
    • a couple of sharpened #2 pencils
    • email registration confirmation receipt and a student ID
    • a blue or black ink pen
  • Students must know their current home address and zip code. (Address is on the email registration confirmation receipt.)
  • The test is about 3.5 - 4 hours, and we recommend returning 4 hours after the test starts to pick up a student. Parents are invited to wait in the Commons which is located at the entrance level of McDonnell Hall. Waiting in the Commons area keeps the testing area quite so that students can concentrate. It also helps keep students from being distracted from parents waiting outside the testing windows.

Parking Directions: Please Read

We are very respectful of the people who live in our neighborhood. We must be sensitive to them when parking, which means we require our Prep community and guests to first attempt to park in the garage. If there is no space available in the garage, then please look for legal parking spaces in the neighborhood. Parking at Seattle Prep can take some time. Please allow enough time to park and arrive at the testing room without feeling rushed.

The following directions will make parking in the garage most effective when so many will be arriving at the same time for the test.

  1. We will have parking attendants in the garage to help you navigate your way. If you intend to stay for the test, please proceed to the bottom level first. This speeds up traffic for those students who will be dropped off. Parking on the upper level first slows traffic.
  2. For those dropping off students for the test, please use the garage for drop off.
  3. We love carpools. Please feel welcome to form a carpool on the testing day if possible.
