Overview
Seattle Prep offers German, Mandarin and Spanish language classes.
Our courses are designed to develop cultural awareness, understanding and appreciation of respective communities by helping students develop proficiency in listening, reading, speaking and writing using authentic materials and real-life situations.

Department Chair
Maureen Nemeth is a graduate of the University of Notre Dame (B.A. – Psychology and Spanish; M.Ed. – Education). Early in her career, she taught Spanish at St. Joseph Catholic School in Jackson, MS, and St. Catherine School in Seattle. Most recently she taught at Shorecrest High School, where she gained 15 years of experience teaching Spanish levels 1-4. She also served as World Languages Department Head for four years and National Honor Society Advisor for six years while at Shorecrest. Maureen is a National Board Certified Teacher and participated in the Fulbright Teacher Exchange Program.
World Languages Courses
German 1
German 1 is designed for students who have little or no prior background in learning the language. During this course students are introduced to the German language and the culture and countries in which it is spoken. During the year, students begin to acquire and develop the language in the four primary skills of reading, writing, speaking and listening.
Prerequisite: None
Mandarin Chinese 1
Mandarin Chinese 1 is designed for students who have little or no prior background in learning the language. During this course students are introduced to Mandarin Chinese and the cultures and communities in which it is spoken. During the year, students begin to acquire and develop the language in the four primary skills of reading, writing, speaking and listening.

Spanish 1
Spanish 1 is designed for students who have little or no prior background in learning the language. During this course students are introduced to the Spanish language and the cultures and communities in which it is spoken. During the year, students begin to acquire and develop the language in the four primary skills of reading, writing, speaking and listening.
