Community and Belonging

Grounded in our Jesuit mission, this area focuses on nurturing a school culture where relationships, reflection, and spiritual growth are central. 

This includes: 

• Retreats, liturgies, and formation programs 

• Service and Justice initiatives grounded in Catholic Social Teaching 

• Activities that build compassion, solidarity, and a sense of shared purpose 

We foster environments where every student feels connected, empowered, and supported. 

This includes: 

• Link Crew and first-year transition support 

• Affinity groups and student-led organizations 

• Leadership development opportunities through Diversity Council, service programs, and clubs 

• Community-building events 

Belonging is strengthened when all students experience success, support, and representation in the classroom. 

This includes: 

• A curriculum that incorporates diverse voices and global perspectives 

• Inclusive teaching practices supported through professional development 

• MTSS (Multi-Tiered Systems of Support) frameworks that address diverse learning needs 

• Equity-centered hiring and ongoing faculty/staff formation 

• Efforts to remove barriers to access and ensure all students can fully participate in Prep’s programs 

The Assistant Principal for Community & Belonging provides vision and leadership for schoolwide efforts that foster an inclusive, mission-centered community. This role brings together student life, faith formation, service, and professional development to ensure that every student experiences a deep sense of belonging at Prep. The Assistant Principal for Community & Belonging is William Liu.

The Community & Belonging Team is a cross-disciplinary group of faculty, staff, and administrators who help guide and strengthen this work. The team: 

• Assesses school culture and student experience 

• Supports affinity groups, student programming, and cultural events 

• Collaborates on policies and practices that promote inclusion 

• Helps advance long-term goals related to belonging 

This team ensures that the work is shared, sustainable, and reflective of Prep’s Jesuit identity. 

Community & Belonging is supported by leaders across multiple departments, including: 

• Magis Director of Service & Justice and Service & Justice Program Associate 

• Director of Student Activities (clubs & student events) 

• Global Programs Coordinator 

• Human Resources (hiring practices, staff support, mission-based formation) 

• Academic Leadership & Student Support Services team (student support and access) 

Together, these roles help align Seattle Prep’s commitment to belonging across academics, co-curricular programs, student support, and mission formation. 

While these roles provide structure and direction, the work of belonging is shared by all members of our community—students, families, faculty, and staff. Rooted in Ignatian spirituality, we strive to form people who recognize the dignity of every person and contribute to a community where all are welcomed and valued.
