This optional retreat for sophomore girls is designed “to inspire each young woman to find the strength, confidence and empowerment she needs to follow her dreams; to find her inner beauty and own her own gifts".  
The retreat is January 31 - Feb. 2, 2013 and is open to all sophomore girls.

 What is the Young Women’s Retreat?  Is it required?

The Young Women’s retreat’s mission is to inspire each young woman to find the strength, confidence and empowerment she needs to follow her dreams; find her inner beauty and own her unique gifts.  The retreat will center on student talks and challenges, small group sharing, and fun activities such as a ropes course and paintballing.  The retreat is optional and highly encouraged. 

 Why have a Young Women’s retreat?

Seattle Prep believes in the holistic education of its students.  The Young Men and Young Women’s retreat, offered to sophomore boys and girls, provides students a chance to explore coming of age issues that affect each gender.  This is Seattle Prep’s one gender exclusive retreat and this setting enables us to explore and grow areas of life that are not possible in a mixed gender environment. 

 Issues explored on the Young Women’s retreat include but are not limited to:

  • Body Image/Self-Confidence/Self-Esteem
  • Sexism
  • Holistic Women’s Health Concerns
  • Healthy Coping Skills
  • Role Models
  • Building Community

 Practical Retreat Information

 Retreat Dates:  Jan. 31 - Feb. 2, 2013 at Miracle Ranch Camp near Purdy, Washington.  
Students will leave at Window period (1/2 day  11:15am) Thursday Jan. 31st and return Sat. Feb. 2nd.  Students will miss one day of school. (Friday there is no school)   The retreat fee is $150.  The Seattle Prep staff members leading this retreat are Counselor Jolene Boyle and Community Minister Rachel Forte.

Because of the continuous and seamless nature of this retreat, no student will be permitted to arrive late or leave early; no exceptions! 

 How do I sign up for the Young Women’s Retreat?

Students should attend the informational meeting in November at lunch (listen up for announcements or parent emails). Students then fill out the application form, also located on our web site or by stopping by the Community Ministry office (Room 104 McDonnell Hall) or the Counseling office (2ndfloor St. Ignatius hall). 

 How much does it cost?

The cost is currently $150 and there is financial aid available. 

 Who leads this retreat?

Counselor Jolene Boyle and Community Minister Rachel Forte lead the retreat with a team of junior and senior upper-class women. Other female faculty and staff are also there to help lead the retreat. 

 What do students need to bring on the Retreat?

You will receive a To Bring List when you register for the retreat, including emergency contact phone numbers.

 Packing List – Please put your name on all items!

Sleeping bag and pillow
Clothes for wet and rainy weather, including a jacket for outside activities
Towel, soap and toiletries
A second pair of shoes and change of clothes in case of rain
Refillable water bottle
Flashlight
Optional: journal, camera, sports equipment, soccer, football, Frisbee, etc.
Musical instrument, if you play one
Please do NOT bring cell phones.

 Is there any follow up that happens after the retreat?

There is a follow up meeting for the young women who attended the retreat a month after the retreat.  The small groups that form on the retreat often continue meeting informally after the retreat with and without their small group leader.  Students are also invited to continue their retreat experience by attending weekly mass at Prep.  Students can check out of their liturgy/study hall and attend mass in the Healy Chapel on liturgy days
