Community Ministry aids in the continuing spiritual development of the individuals at Seattle Prep and helps to provide for the holistic development of a Christian community.  While theology is taught in the classroom Community Ministry provides opportunities outside the classroom to grow in relationship with God. Community Ministry at Seattle Prep is administered by a core group of faculty and staff whose primary intention is to minister as a team.  The team attempts to establish itself as a community of prayer, discernment and concern thereby providing a model of what may be possible in the broader community.  Just as importantly, the team works in partnership with students, staff, parents and alums in ascertaining the spiritual needs of the various groups within the Prep constituency, planning programs and experiences which meet those needs. Visit us in our office in McDonnell Room 104.

Sacraments
Catholic Liturgy - Liturgically, Community Ministry attempts to provide a broad variety of prayer and worship experiences.  Each week a liturgy is offered and students are invited to participate in those liturgies by planning them, taking part in them or attending them.  Weekly liturgy is offered on B liturgy days at 9:20am in the Healy Chapel.  Students can check out of their study hall to attend.  Five mandatory all-school liturgies are held each year in the gym.
Reconciliation - The formal sacrament of reconciliation is offered multiple times a year by our priest ministers.

Prayer
Prayer is a regular feature at Seattle Prep.  Community Ministry starts each school day off with a prayer for the whole school.  At everyall school gathering we start with prayer and assist students to grow in their ability to pray.

Ministerial Training
Community Ministry trains over 500 students for different ministerial roles during a school year. These include training and leadership in liturgy, prayer, retreats and service.

Peer Ministry
Peer Ministry is a group of students that desire to learn more about their faith, what ministry is and to assist in the spiritual growth of the Seattle Prep Community.  This non graded class is open to freshmen through seniors and meets during the Window period at the end of the day.  Peer Ministers assist with liturgy, service activities retreat preparation and special events.

Faith in Action Class
This senior theology class provides hands on training of how to actively live out a Christian faith and how to minister to the Prep community.  Students are trained in leadership and ministry and help with ministerial programs such as liturgy, student retreats, prayer and service opportunities.

Retreats -
Each student at Seattle Prep also has an opportunity to attend a yearly overnight retreat during each of his/her years at the school.
·          Freshmen Retreat - This required overnight retreat aims at providing and building a sense of community and a sense of
school spirit.  It takes place at school under the leadership of upperclassmen.
·          Sophomore Urban Plunge Service Retreat- This required Sunday to Monday overnight retreat offers students an
opportunity to give back to the community through service to the poor and disadvantaged.
·          Sophomore Young Women’s Retreat- This optional retreat is designed to help young women find strength, confidence
           and empowerment.
·          Sophomore Young Men’s Retreat- This optional retreat offers sophomore boys a chance to understand and reflect upon
           maturing into a Christian Man.
-             Junior Kairos-  This three and a half day, Wednesday to Saturday Kairos retreat is geared to strengthening the juniors’
relationship with God and their peers.  It is a time to allow them to “find God in all things”.
·          Senior Pilgrimage- Seniors, through the experience of a communal hike, deepen their knowledge of self while
Strengthening their relationship with God  and otherss
·          Senior Manresa Retreat- This retreat is modeled after the Spiritual Exercises’ of St. Ignatius.  This retreat helps students
appreciate the gifts God has given them and how they can live them out in the world.

Christian Service
Christian service is an integral part of our ministerial program.   The Community Ministry Team offers different service opportunities such as the Giving Tree Service project and the Urban Plunge retreat. The Magis Christian Service program is run by the Christian Service Department.  It administers the formal service requirement for Freshmen, sophomore, juniors and seniors as well as other service opportunities.
